Challenge

This charming Victorian home necessitated a delicate transformation. It required a restoration and extension at the rear of the home while taking fastidious care to retain the superb façade at the front.

This project had been inherited from a previous builder prior to the building permit being acquired. We had to carefully amend the existing plans, all the while contending with a limited handover. The site itself presented challenges; it was uneven, and we were experiencing water entering the site and pooling underneath the home from an unknown source.

Solution

After collaborating extensively with the client and designer to amend the plans and necessary documentation, we completed the project to perfection. We finished under the client’s budget and in just four months; almost half the time estimated by the previous builder.

We maximised space and elevated comfort levels within the home by levelling the floors and redesigning the mechanical works. We wanted to ensure the house had a complete heating and cooling system and the high ceilings in the design were maintained. These changes revived the home, providing ample airflow with rooms awash with natural light.

As the house flows from front to back, the expertly restored period features of this charming home blend seamlessly with the addition of the light-filled, modern space at the rear. The completed design is vibrant and contemporary. It represents a fresh perspective on a charming Victorian home; a harmonious contrast between old and new.
